The Old School
Date: January, 1958
My sister Ginny's first day at Sakeji. Miss Ross is the teacher.
There was a hole in the door that's visible in the picture. If your shoes needed mending, they were put through that hole. That was one of the mysteries of my childhood. What happened to them in that hole?
The new school was built during my time at Sakeji. This thatched roofed, whitewashed building was traded for a brick building with beautiful arches and an aluminum roof. At the time of this picture the old school was no longer used for classes. The classroom for the little kids is off to the left. It was a building by itself.
